Our Strategic Design Code is primarily aimed at uplifting design quality at development sites at Toton and Chetwynd Barracks and, where possible, the Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station area, helping to create better-connected, more beautiful places across the south Nottinghamshire boroughs.

It also seeks to help address the climate emergency and meet the aspirations of local communities who live and work in these areas.

The Strategic Design Code is a government pilot and part of the national agenda, with EM DevCo and its local authority partners selected to progress one of 25 pathfinder schemes across the country for the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Our public consultation is now closed and we would like to thank everybody that responded. We will continue to work with partners to explore options around the implementation of the design code.

The role of the Strategic Design Code

  • Uplift the design quality in the East Midlands region
  • Provide greater certainty around key sites
  • Provide support for local authorities to deliver design improvements
